What We Do
The Calgary Fetal Alcohol Network (CFAN) is a charity that aims to reduce the incidence of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and ensure people who are affected by FASD are able to live a positive and fulfilling life.
What started in 2000 as a grassroots committee aimed at collectively addressing FASD in the community has since grown not only in size but also in vision and scope. Through support services and programs, community engagement, training, advocacy and funding stewardship, we are advancing how people understand and respond to FASD in Calgary and surrounding areas.
One of 12 FASD Service Networks in the province of Alberta, CFAN works with members, community stakeholders and partner agencies to cultivate a deeper understanding of FASD, its causes, symptoms and wider impacts. Through our work, we support over 1,000 individuals with FASD and their caregivers each year.
In Calgary and area, we oversee three key service areas: prevention, assessment and diagnosis, and direct supports for individuals and families. In addition, we provide FASD training and education and support to those affected by FASD.
In partnership with the Foothills Fetal Alcohol Society, we offer ConnectFASD, a full spectrum support program across a lifespan. The program includes FASD services and supports, community events, helpline and information sharing hub.
